WSA opens new R&D Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad
The group behind brands such as Widex, Signia, Rexton, Audio Service, and Vibe sees India as a significant centre of its global innovation.
WS Audiology (WSA) has made a landmark statement in its expansion in India by opening a new Research and Development hub in Hyderabad, underlining a commitment to local technology and talent.
As part of its global ambitions, the Hyderabad R&D Centre of Excellence is hailed by Joerg Brandscheid, WSA’s Chief Technology Officer, as pivotal. The executive for the Danish outfit said the move would enhance product development with “cutting-edge” technologies and improve user experiences and outcomes.
“This Centre of Excellence builds on WSA’s global R&D footprint and is a cornerstone in our long-term vision for India, where we aim to lead the way in improving hearing health across the region,” Brandscheid continued.
The new centre has capacity for over 250 engineers, and will focus on key areas such as the use of artificial intelligence. WSA even posits that work at the centre could lead to hearing aids being made more affordable, perhaps a suggestion of deeper commitment from the company to over-the-counter (OTC) devices.
In 2022, WS Audiology – the makers of Signia and Widex hearing aids – entered into partnership with Sony and quickly developed an OTC device which Maarten Barmentlo, Chief Marketing Officer and President OTC of WS Audiology, called “a big step forward to deliver on our purpose of Wonderful Sound for All.”
