Specsavers gets audiology in STEM youngsters’ eyelines at BIG BANG event
Thousands of young people into science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) visited the Big Bang Fair at the NEC in Birmingham this June 21 to 23. And many were able to try their hand at audiology, as retail group Specsavers provided equipment and displays for an interactive experience.
Representing audiology as well as optometry, the UK-based company lined up alongside big-hitters in the STEM field, such as Amazon, Rolls-Royce, British Airways and the Royal Air Force.
“We highlighted how audiology and optometry are rewarding and dynamic healthcare careers that use cutting edge technology to help change people’s lives,” said Lucy Knock, Specsavers Early Careers Manager, Career Advancement.
“When it came to audiology, the school children could discover what it takes to be an audiologist. They were able have a go at wax removal from a dummy ear and to take a peek into dummy ear canals using special equipment and see the results projected live on a big screen on our stand,’ says Laura Monaghan, Head of Audiology Careers at Specsavers.
