Funding from the USA's National Institute on Aging supplies a Boston University-led five-year search for large, diverse data sets, research going beyond observational studies, and evidence of cause in preventing degenerative neurological disorders by modifying risk factors. Hearing impairment is one of several to be examined.

Naturally, research must go on to establish whether modifying risk factors such as hearing loss - through treatment with hearing aids, for example - can be causally linked to preventing or improving Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD).
