Intriguing presentations include in-depth studies of hearing aids: How intelligent are they? How can they be fit for workplace contexts? And is AI noise reduction just marketing or a real benefit?

EUHA 2024 programme now online – and it sparkles!

At 09:15 on Wednesday October 16, the new EUHA-Live Area will be buzzing with the opening ceremony of the world’s biggest audiology event, the (68th) International EUHA Congress. The audience members, brushing any remaining breakfast croissant crumbs from their lips, will also be permitted to relish the educational feast of the three days of lectures and tutorials their tickets entitle them to attend.

Within the framework of this year’s Congress focus on its partner country, Denmark, participants in the event(October  16 to 18 in Hanover) can look forward to an extensive programme of lectures on current topics in hearing aid acoustics and hearing system technology in four formats: a Knowledge Symposium, 26 expert lectures, five tutorials, and four Future Friday keynotes will guarantee knowledge transfer at the highest level.

Intriguing lecture titles abound, such as How intelligent are ‘intelligent’ hearing aids? An update (Dr. Martin Kinkel, Burgwedel); Understanding and addressing hearing loss stigma in context of larger cultural factors (Andrew Bellavia M. A., Illinois, USA); How to assess the cognitive status of people with hearing loss? (Prof. Dr. Josef Kessler, Cologne); and Noise reduction with AI: Just marketing or a real benefit for the hearing aid user? (Dr. Matthias Latzel, Stäfa, Switzerland)

Tutorials will explore key subjects too, such as, under the guidance of Hanover-based lecturer Prof. Dr. Anke Lesinski-Schiedat, 40 years of CI – how complex is it? or Navigating in an era of uncertainty: The essence of modern leadership skills in the age of skilled labour shortage, directed by Dennis Alter, Dresden.

 

Knowledge Symposium

 

The EUHA Knowledge Symposium starts on Wednesday morning, October 16 at 11:30 with Professor Torsten Dau, renowned researcher in the field of auditory perception from the Technical University of Denmark. Emerging trends in technical compensation strategies for hearing aids will be followed by the EUHA Sponsorship Award ceremony and the FDHA Award ceremony. Admission to this special programme is free of charge for all Congress delegates.

 

Expert lectures

 

The lectures address important innovations from the fields of Research & Science, Public Health Policy & the Future, Marketing & Communication, and Practical Application. In total, more than 30 experts from Germany and abroad will present relevant knowledge from hearing aid acoustics, medicine, and research. Every day, an expert lecture by scientists from Denmark will be on the agenda.

On Thursday, Professor Tobias Neher, from the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, will open the lecture programme with the presentation on Detecting and preventing rollover at above-conversational speech levels.

On Friday, the lectures fit within the framework of EUHA’s Future Friday focus on things to come. Sergi Rotger-Griful, from the Eriksholm Research Centre in Snekkersten, Denmark, will give one of the Future Friday Keynotes: Understanding Communication Challenges in People with Hearing Loss: Insights and Future Directions for Audiological Applications.

Tutorials

 

The focus of the tutorials is on the practical application of knowledge. They can be booked in the ticket shop and, for the first time, are this year free of charge for season ticket and combi ticket holders . Topics on Thursday October 17 include CI, hyperacusis and misophonia, as well as customer advice and leadership skills.

 

Future Friday

 

Four exciting keynotes on important forward-looking topics in hearing aid acoustics offered from 14:00 on October 18 will be the highlight of the third day. These lectures are free of charge for all conference delegates. The renowned retail futurologist, Theresa Schleicher, will speak about the future of retail and consumers. Prof. Dr. David Matusiewicz, digital health expert, professor of medical management at the FOM University as well as founder and CEO of the DXM Group, will give a talk on digital transformation in healthcare. Dr. Benedikt Höing from Essen University Hospital provides insights into AI in hearing aid research, asking Who benefits from a cochlear implant?
