Damning report of NHS failings reveals shocking communication neglect of patients with hearing loss
New research, announced as a revelation of a "national scandal" details how UK patients with deafness and hearing loss are suffering drastic consequences - such as not understanding their cancer diagnosis - as the National Health Service fails on information access, staff awareness and confidence, meeting legal support requirements, and a long list of other impactful shortcomings.

This is not a story of mere failings; the UK's biggest charity for deaf people is accusing the NHS of "systematically discriminating against people who are deaf or have hearing loss".
It is a scathing tone, of a breaking "scandal" that, says the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID), is putting millions of lives at risk. The details being revealed by a new report published on April 24, 2025 by the RNID and SignHealth, reinforce a call for urgent action by the UK Government to "stop lives being put at risk" through any one of a list of woeful communication shortcomings that stretch to breaches of the law.
