Safety green light lets Sonova offer Phonak Marvel tech to Advanced Bionics cochlear implant wearers
cochlear implants
Marvel, the most successful product launch in Phonak’s history, will be available to users of its sister firm Advanced Bionics’ cochlear implants (CIs), following an announcement by their parent group Sonova of TUV approval bringing international safety recognition.
The link up around the Marvel hearing aid platform will bring substantial sound quality, performance, and Bluetooth connectivity benefits not only to adults, but also—through a paediatric CI solution—to child patients.
Extending the technology to the benefit of bimodal-hearing patients will include the following:
- Sky CI Marvel paediatric cochlear implant solution;
- New Naída CI Marvel sound processor for adults;
- Sky Link Marvel and Naida Link Marvel super-power hearing aids;
- New Target CI fitting software with industry-first features;
- New Advanced Bionics Remote app for easy adjustments via smartphone.
Naída CI Marvel uses a machine-learning algorithm – AutoSense OS™ 3.0 – to analyse the sounds in the listener’s environment every 0.4 seconds. This can identify whether the sounds are in a noisy restaurant, car, concert hall, at home, and other environments. It then engages the appropriate cochlear implant system features to customise and enhance the wearer’s hearing experience based on the specific characteristics of the listening environment.
Sonova claims that Sky CI Marvel is the world’s first paediatric cochlear implant solution for children. It combines Advanced Bionics sound processing with the Marvel platform, and comes in a wide variety of wearing options, child-preferred colours, and waterproof accessories. Its integrated Phonak Roger technology help kids hear their teachers and conversation partners in classrooms, cafeterias, and auditoriums directly in their ears, bypassing noise in the environment. Direct smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth and the intuitive AB Remote app means children can connect with the world around them throughout the day.
“This is one of the most important and impressive product launches Advanced Bionics has ever had. Building on the wildly successful Phonak Marvel platform, Naída CI Marvel, Sky CI Marvel, and Target CI are going to be game changers for the cochlear implant industry,˝ said Victoria E. Carr-Brendel, GVP, Sonova Group, and President of Advanced Bionics.
Noahlink Wireless fitting boost
The platform includes Target CI to offer hearing care professionals easier fittings through the industry-standard Noahlink Wireless, giving them and their patients the freedom and convenience of cable-free programming. For the first time ever, professionals can program a cochlear implant and the associated bimodal hearing aid with one software in one fitting session, claims Sonova. Target CI is also designed to be a smarter fitting tool, with default settings optimised for cochlear implant patients, giving professionals the flexibility to meet their patient-specific needs.
