EUHA 2023: full programme announced

In line with the organisers’ decision to give the annual Congress more international input and flavour, a lecture from Switzerland kicks off the EUHA Knowledge Symposium on the morning of Wednesday, October 18. “Specialist shops will always be needed – or will hearing aids soon only be available online?” is presented by Christoph Schwob, advisory member of the Swiss audiological commission and a member of the Paediatric Acoustics professional group of the Swiss Federal Social Insurance Office.

Schwob’s lecture will be followed by the EUHA Sponsorship Award and the FDHA Awards ceremonies. After the symposium, Dr. Florian Denk of the German Institute of Hearing Aids will hold a lecture on “Closed, occlusion-free earmoulds? History, findings, and new research”.

Twenty-four lectures given by experts from Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Belgium, and the United States will be covering a wide range of innovative topics such as AI in hearing systems, assistive listening technology, and an initial assessment of a year of OTC devices in the US.

Tutorials

The tutorials will be dealing with topics such as hearing implant fitting in Switzerland, the use of measurement technology in the fitting process, and stress management through mindfulness. There will be two exciting social media tutorials, and one on conversations with customers in sign language.

Roundtable discussion

“Changing hearing aid acoustics: The European perspective on the future of better hearing and intelligibility” – this will be the focus of the roundtable discussion on Thursday afternoon, October 19. International experts from Switzerland, Belgium, and Germany are participating in this format, too.

Future Friday Keynotes

True to the motto, the keynote lectures on Future Friday, 20 Oct, focus on forward-looking content: Elisabeth Koert will be talking about the “Optogenetic cochlear implant”. Founder and entrepreneur Bilal Zafar is looking at how AI will revolutionise the working environment. Professor Dr. Stefan Launer will tackle the question if hearing aids improve the quality of life, and explain that the science behind well-hearing is well-being. The fourth lecturer, Dennis Fischer, who is a writer, coach, and speaker, will present insights into “Future work skills in hearing aid acoustics”.
