Starkey opens Nairobi office to begin African adventure
The new facility boasts a full hearing care service centre with a 3D ear-mould laboratory to make custom hearing devices. And, naturally, the venture means jobs in hearing care for locals. Starkey operates in more than 100 countries and employs over 5,000 people.
The hearing impairment profile of this East African country would seem to provide incentive for investment, with hearing loss statistics from Kenya National Special Needs Education (KNSE) showing a rise in recent decades. Currently, one in ten Kenyans requires hearing treatment.
“Plans are underway to open branches in other African countries but Nairobi will remain the Hub of Africa,” Giscard Bechara, Regional Director for the Middle East & Africa at Starkey Hearing Technologies, told the Kenyan Business Daily newspaper.
“Kenya is the ideal location due to its infrastructure, facilities and superior medical services. This will allow us to help people throughout Africa who are suffering from hearing loss to hear better and live better,” added Bechara.
