MED-EL plans to expand its business in India

MED-EL’s Indian subsidiary hosted the event to help address the needs of the hearing impaired in India. MED EL is one of the world’s leading providers of hearing implant systems and its CEO, Dr. Ingeborg Hochmair (picture above), attended the event along with other healthcare professionals, surgeons and industry experts.

Tejinder Singh, Director at MED-EL India said, “In India, it is estimated that up to 8.8% of the population suffers from hearing loss with approximately 3.8 million children waiting for cochlear implants. If children are implanted early with a cochlear implant, they can go on to lead a normal life and develop through the education system. It is our endeavor at MED-EL to provide a service that is reliable, trustworthy, and offers the very latest in technology to the many millions of Indians who can benefit from a cochlear implant.”

According to Pharmabiz, the number of cochlear implantations in India is growing rapidly, with investments from the Indian Government and an increase in demand from the country’s population. MED-EL has been one of the main suppliers of cochlear implant devices and is supporting government-sponsored CI programs in several states across the nation, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

MED-EL has been represented in India since 1992 but has had a direct presence in the form of a 100%-owned subsidiary since 2006. Through its subsidiary, the company continues to expand and supports more than 100 clinics in 45 major cities in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.
